Make a Difference Day

Monday, Oct 22, 2018

Did you know that you had the ability to change the world?

Every year, on the last Saturday in October, people across the world come together to make a difference in the lives of others. Since its inception in 1992, Make a Difference Day has helped to encourage thousands of people across the nation to give back to their local communities. The ways to celebrate Make a Difference Day are limited only by your imagination. Here are a few ideas to get you started:

1. Start a Community Garden

Community Garden

Not only do community gardens beautify the community, but they can also provide produce and other goods to local neighborhoods that are underserved and in need. You won't just be growing fruits and vegetables, you will be growing friendships as well!

2. Organize a Clean-Up

Grab a box of garbage bags and a supply of rubber gloves and hit the streets to beautify your local park or neighborhood. Lead the way, and see who follows.

3. Donate blood.

Every blood donation makes a difference in someone's life, and what greater gift could you give? Plus, they'll give you a juice and a cookie. Everyone wins, so schedule your next donation today!

4. Lead a Food Drive

Chances are, there is a local food bank within 20 minutes of where you live that is in need of donations. Hang some flyers and hit up the neighbors to collect items to be donated.

5. Build a Little Free Library

Little libraries function as a neighborhood book exchange and have huge impacts on those who are able to utilize them. Best of all, they promote literacy and learning for those who may not otherwise have access to a good book. Making your free library is easy. Get started here

6. Adopt a Neighbor

You don't have to go far or orchestrate grand gestures to make an impact. Whether it's the older woman down the street who lives alone or the young mother of two on the corner, there are people in your very own neighborhood who could use a hand.

7. Become a CASA Volunteer

By volunteering as a Court Appointed Special Advocate you can change not just a child's life, but your own! CASA volunteers advocate for the best interests of an abused or neglected child who is under the protection of the court. Every CASA directly impacts the life of a foster child. We all have the ability to change the world. How will you help?
